Basic Telecommunications Licensing Course
Effective January 1, 2014, this training is now a licensing course required of all new telecommunication specialists. The course must be completed within one year of hire by an agency. Participants must meet state minimum standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), pass the course, and pass the TCOLE state exam in order to become licensed.
The class is open to individuals seeking licensing on their own or for individuals who are already working for a police agency. Those applicants not already working for a police agency will need to complete a psychological and criminal background. Contact email@example.com for more information.
It is recommended to complete TCIC/NCIC and NIMS classes before this class. TCIC/NCIC Classes will be held the week before the Basic Telecommunications Class. Check our catalog for class dates. NIMS 100 and 200 classes can be completed through FEMA on-line at:
**Before registering for the Basic Telecommunications Course, all applicants must first take the AACOG Entrance Exam. Please call 210-362-5291 to schedule the TABE Entrance Exam**
The test is a Basic Reading Comprehension test. A Practice Test can be found at:
There is no charge for the test. For questions about this class or other Telecommunicator classes in the future, contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Please ensure that you have met all TCOLE prerequisites prior to registering to take a state licensing exam.
Registering to take a licensing exam on our website does not confirm that an individual has met the state requirements or prerequisites to take the exam. Employers and applicants must ensure that they meet state requirements to include medical, criminal history checks, psychological, endorsement letters, and any other training or requirements mandated by TCOLE prior to taking a state licensing exam. TCCOLE may be reached at 512-936-7700.
TCOLE Rules require that a person take and complete course/test 1305 (TCOLE Rule Overview for Jailers and Telecommunicators) or BPOC Chapter 33 Rules Overview Exam for Peace Officers), which is a required pre-requisite for licensure testing. A 100% score on the 1305 test is required in order to take the state exam.
The BPOC and Telecommunicators 1305 exams can be completed online by going to http://www.tcole.texas.gov/
