In recognition of Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities’ (GCPD) Accessibility and Disability Policy Webinar Series will host two webinars that will cover areas crucial to building success for people with autism.

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) will draft a HUD-required action plan that describes the types of programs for which those funds will be used.
The GLO requests that attendees to the stakeholder input session come prepared to discuss the following:
1) The natural hazards and disasters faced by their communities in the past and expect to face in the future.
2) The administrative capacity to identify and/or implement natural hazard mitigation projects, including the project funding application process, compliance with regulations, and procurement of vendor services to realize projects.
3) Mitigation strategies already in place to address natural hazards/disasters that impact physical infrastructure, housing near or within flood risk areas, emergency readiness, and community outreach/education about preparedness.
4) Desired mitigation projects/programs that are needed but currently lack a funding source to address identified natural hazard/disaster risks.

Through the National Energy Education Development Project, ConocoPhillips funds energy education workshops for teachers in the U.S. The program helps teachers educate students on a wide range of topics including energy conservation and alternative energy sources. Over 95 percent of the workshop participants indicate that they will use the materials in their classrooms. To date, the program has reached approximately 750,000 students

The first National Autism Awareness Month was declared by the Autism Society in April 1970. Over the intervening years, our understanding of autism has grown and we’ve begun to recognize the importance of autism awareness and acceptance. In 2007, the United Nations declared April 2nd World Autism Awareness Day; the theme for 2019 is “Assistive Technologies, Active Participation.” Affordable assistive technologies are a prerequisite to full inclusion for many people with autism.
