Military Appreciation Weekend
Saturday, May 5, 2018
This will be the first time the base will be open to the public in years! The goal of the weekend is to celebrate San Antonio’s 300 year long history with the military, and to invite the community of San Antonio onto Ft. Sam Houston to highlight the installation’s military missions-- past and present.
Parking will be available for non-DOD identification holders to ensure they can get onto the Post. There will be an action-packed schedule of events from the beginning to the end of the weekend. The weekend will kick off with a Combat 5K Run (open to the pubic) and will follow with a Festival & Carnival, Interesting & Informative Displays, Historic Tours and Military Reenactments. World-renown ceremonial units scheduled to perform will include the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team, Army Old Guard and the Army Special Operations jump Team, the Black Daggers. Other weekend highlights include a polo match (with real ponies), a cavalry charge, and a concert by a music sensation. The weekend will end with an intricate fireworks display on Sunday evening.
