Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Workshop Tuesday, September 24 at 2 p.m.

There will be an informational workshop hosted by AACOG and led by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regarding the upcoming Texas Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program (TNGVGP).  This workshop will be held at AACOG's Al J. Notzon III Board Room on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., located at 8700 Tesoro Drive, San Antonio, TX 78217.  The workshop is free and no registration is required.  For those that can't attend the workshop, there will be a free webinar regarding the TNGVGP on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at 10:00 a.m.  You MUST register by email to attend the webinar at terp@tceq.texas.gov.  The webinar link and instructions will be sent to participants via email on the day of the webinar.

The purpose of this grant program is to provide incentives to people or organizations who have older dirtier vehicles that run on diesel or gas to replace or repower them with CNG, LNG, or LPG vehicles/engines.  Applicants may receive up to 90% of the eligible cost to replace their vehicles.  There is $15.4 million dollars to award under TNGVGP.

Individuals, corporations, organizations, government entities, business trusts, and associations are a few examples of eligible applicants.  Eligible vehicles include:

  • Propane distributors (including their own trucks)
  • Delivery trucks; including parcel delivery like Fed Ex and UPS
  • School buses
  • Cement mixer
  • Dump trucks
  • Refuse trucks
  • Roll off trucks
  • Fleets like for city or county or contractor
  • Tractor trailer trucks/18 wheelers

Vehicles and engines eligible for replacement or repower must be powered by diesel or gasoline and must be a medium- or heavy-duty vehicle greater than 8500 lbs.  The new vehicle must be a TCEQ approved natural gas vehicle/engine powered by CNG, LNG, or LPG.  New vehicles need to be the same type and general weight class as the old vehicle/engine.
