Services

The Alamo Area Regional Law Enforcement Academy offers Basic Peace Officer and Basic Correction Officer programs, as well as Basic Telecommunications Certification for individuals seeking licensure through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
In addition, the academy provides continuing education for licensed law enforcement professionals. Peace officers, corrections officers, and telecommunicators are able to advance their proficiency certifications through the intermediate, advanced, and master-level courses available through the academy.

Basic Peace Officer Course

Please note that you MUST be the age of 21 by the date of graduation in order to be accepted into the Basic Peace Officer Course.

An applicant’s first step will be to take the entrance exam. Entrance exam dates can be found here.

Applicants must bring copies of the following documents the day of the exam:

  • High school diploma or GED and CollegeTranscripts (unofficial are acceptable)
  • Member 4 Form/DD214 (if applicant has prior military experience)
  • Proof of auto liability insurance
  • Proof of citizenship (i.e., birth certificate or naturalization certificate)
  • Valid driver’s license

The BPOC Entrance Exam costs $35. Pre-registering with payment is required through this training portal: www.aarlea.com.

Full-Time Day Classes:

Monday -Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. including two or three weekend training sessions during the course.

Part-Time Evening Classes:

This BPOC Course 2022 Echo, is being be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm-10pm, with some Saturdays from 8am-5pm. Cadets will also have to be available to attend the Firearms Course, Crisis Intervention Training Course (CIT - TCOLE #1850 - 40 hours), and the Driving Course from Monday – Friday from 8am-5pm. These dates will be announced with anticipation for the cadet to make necessary arrangements to take these assigned weeks off if they are currently working. The reason for having to do these particular subjects in a one week period is due to reserving the necessary venue and TCOLE’s rules.

Wednesday - Friday 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

2022 Echo**

Part-Time Day Classes:

This BPOC Course 2022 Fox Trot, is being be held on Monday through Fridays from 8am-1pm.  There will be at least two weeks during the duration of the class that attendance will be required Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  There will be approximately 4 weekends thru the duration of the class that attendance will be required to complete the course. Graduation date will be announced at orientation. 

As of December 2, 2021, BPOC tuition for Full-Time and/or Part-Time is $3500 per student

Testing for the BPOC Part-Time 2022 Echo Class is currently ongoing, testing for all other classes will be posted soon. Please be advised that if the applicant begins the application process, the documents will be valid for 180 days, therefore if you begin the process for a BPOC class (i.e. Bravo Class), you may not be able to apply for a BPOC course that is a few classes ahead (i.e. Delta Class), due to the 180 day expiration date.

Basic Telecommunications Licensing Course

Requirements:

Effective January 1, 2014, this training is now a licensing course required of all new telecommunication specialists. The course must be completed within one year of hire by an agency. Participants must meet state minimum standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), pass the course, and pass the TCOLE state exam in order to become licensed.

The class is open to individuals who are already working for a law enforcement agency and are seeking to obtain their licensing requirements mandated by TCOLE.

It is required to complete the TCIC/TLETS Full Access course (4802) and the NIMS classes before this class. TCIC/TLETS Full Access Course will be held the week prior to the Basic Telecommunications Class (1080). Check our law enforcement training portal for class dates www.aarlea.com.

**Before registering for the Basic Telecommunications Course, all applicants must first take the AACOG Entrance (TABE) Exam. Please call 210-362-5291 to schedule the TABE Entrance Exam**

The test is a Basic Reading Comprehension test. A Practice Test can be found at:
